Film trailer report: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

Codes and conventions:
·         Follows the final girl theory and the SEX=DEATH theory.
·         They are in a truck driving and what we can see they are isolated.
·         Typical road trip with teenage couples driving in the hot sun with the belief that they are going to have a great time.
·         Follows all stereotypes of a teenager (virgin, jock, promiscuous girl, the quiet one)
·         Curiosity kills
·         No one can help them!
Moment of equilibrium:
The period of equilibrium is when they are driving through a deserted county everything is going fine and there is a sense of excitement but calm throughout the truck, this is typical for this type of film.
The period of disequilibrium hits When they come across a women walking on her own, they stop to see if she is ok the only thing she says is “they’re all dead” this is when we realise things starting to go wrong and curiosity sinks in.
Sound and editing:
Throughout the trailer there is non-digetic music and sound at the beginning of the trailer this music is soft, relaxing and sets the mood during the moment of equilibrium there is some quick cuts, fade to blacks and tone cards, as soon as the disequilibrium hits the fade to blacks keep in time with the non digetic heart beat sound. There is also a fade to white that freezes on the shot, this is a very good technique.
