Film trailer report: The Strangers

Codes and conventions:

·         Man and women on a romantic weekend

Moment of equilibrium:

The period of equilibrium is a series of quick cuts showing the couple getting ready for a cosy night in. There is slow tempo music in the background and everything seems calm and romantic.

The period of disequilibrium happens when there is a bang on the door and this is where the curiosity kicks in and where everything starts to get darker and more confusing as they try and figure out what happens.

  Sounds and editing:

Before the moment of equilibrium there are jump cuts and a non-digetic music track playing but it is very soft and romantic music. Then as the moment of disequilibrium sets in we see tone cards then fade to blacks! We then see a great bit of editing and changes of shots using the idea of a broken record that keeps repeating itself and every time it repeats itself it changes shot this creates a really good sense of danger and anticipation.
