Film report: Paranormal activity (2007)

Title: Paranormal activity (2007)
Director: Oren Peli
Writer:  Oren Peli
Starring: Katie Featherston , Micah Sloat and Mark Freadrichs
This film, was filmed with a different outlook  and all  together a different idea of a horror film it had been done before with such films like “The Blaire witch project” it was portrayed as real life and that it was all filmed by the leading roles to this film. They had tried to make out that it was all real undiscovered footage that someone had found.

Trailer: This trailer in particular was very short, shorter than normal trailers. It was completely different than any other trailer that I have seen, it was film in a cinema showing the audience watching the film and showing the audiences reaction which showed them frightened, there are also some tone cards and some fade to blacks. But it is obvious that the creators wanted to viewer to show how scared they could get watching this particular film.
Opening title and sequence:
During the opening scene we see the young couple just getting on with their everyday life and the  and the man talking about his new camera and how he is going to catch the weird behaviour that is going on in their house on camera  as it is filmed on a hand held camera we believe that this is all real and can really play with our minds.

Codes and conventions:
·         Young couple.
·         Curiosity
·         Trying to contact the unknown
·         No one to turn to for help

 Moment Equilibrium:
The period of equilibrium isn’t what I would entirely call a very long period as the weird haunting are mention near enough right at the beginning of the film  but it is all calm from then on for quite a while and takes rather along time to get into the film but i think they have done this to make it seem all the more realistic.

Moment of disequilibrium:
I would say the period of disequilibrium happens when us as the viewer first witnesses something happen to the couple something superstitious .
The new equilibrium:
this film doesn’t carry the idea of the new equilibrium as it leaves us wanting to know what has happened and who is still alive.
Throughout the film there are numerous amounts of tone cards showing dates and information to do with the footage.
